Boom-boom loves books – but not to read them but WRITE on them! And yet it’s fine! As long as he ‘loves’ the book, it’s fine.Even when he just turned one, we’ve made it a point to surround Boom-boom with kids books; it may be as simple as illustration books or those that are quite interactive. Every Christmas, we ask his godparents to give books instead of toys.
Why books and not toys for kids? Simple, we want him, at his early age, to appreciate the value of books and later on develop the habit of reading. I have a friend (Boom’s godmother) who once told me that reading is not genetic, and so cannot be passed on. You can be a bookworm but with children who does not even care to flip just one page of their books. Thus, it is important for parents to teach and encourage their kids, as early as possible, to make books their friend.
Before, finding the perfect books for kids is quite a challenge, fortunately nowadays, books children may be interested in have grown many, especially when you check out the bookstores. But while this may be a big relief, this also triggers a ‘warning’ to parents as there are books that may pose to be kid-friendly but are giving subliminal messages to your little ones. So just be extra extra careful!
Who says parenting is easy, huh?!
